About Pest Decoded

Pest Decoded is an independent consumer information project. Our goal is to help homeowners, renters, landlords, and property managers identify household and property pests, understand the severity of a problem, compare treatment options, estimate realistic costs, and decide when professional pest control is worth hiring.

We are not a pest control company, and we do not perform treatments, inspections, or extermination services. Pest Decoded is supported by advertising, and our goal is to be useful to readers before, during, and after the decision to hire a professional — not to sell pest control services ourselves.

Who Publishes Pest Decoded

Pest Decoded is founded and edited by Alejandro Daniel José. Alejandro is not a licensed pest control operator or entomologist, and Pest Decoded does not present him as one. He researches, writes, and edits the site’s content using government agencies, pesticide regulators, university extension programs, official product documentation, and other primary sources whenever available. When an article has been reviewed by a qualified specialist, that reviewer’s name, credentials, and role are identified on the relevant page.

What We Try to Do

  • Identify the pest before recommending control.
  • Separate low-risk nuisance problems from situations that warrant urgent professional help.
  • Explain what a treatment method can and cannot do.
  • Show the factors behind cost ranges instead of publishing a single unsupported national average.
  • Disclose uncertainty and regional variation rather than overstating precision.
  • Prioritize safety and product-label compliance over aggressive DIY recommendations.
  • Help readers compare quotes, contracts, warranties, and provider qualifications.

See our Editorial Policy and Methodology pages for more detail on how we research, write, and correct our content.
